What to do....

Baldo seems to have developed a severe allergic reaction to tomato sauce. He had it when he was a baby and then it seemed like he out grew it. Tonight, whilst we were enjoying some storebrand frozen pizza, the itchies returned. I'd point the finget at the store-brand aspect but the last time we went to a "good old-fashioned pizzeria" (and we have several), same thing.

Any suggestions? Other than don't eat cheap pizza....

HI Baldo Dad -

I wonder if it's indeed the pizza. You of anyone are the king of the allergies. You should do a guest post for me! What do you think? Will email you.

Did you ever do an antibody test on your boy, like an IEG? I wonder if he has internal tomato allergies. That would be my first guess.

106+ comments on your post about tics on Momformation! That shows a lot of parents needing support on this. Great job on discussing that topic there.

Hi Andrea. Thanks for the comment and for the visit. Ian is doing great. The other day at his yearly physica he found out that he was going to need a flu shot, and boy you could see teh tics start right away. The head rolling and the jaw opening. He actually got a bit scared becasue he was aware of them but couldn't seem to stop. It actually was a great experience since we could talk about how anxiety can trigger the tics. At 11 he is able to make some connections. So, one day at a time and amazingly how quickly this went from definng our lives (for about a week) to being just one of those things!

My son has alot of the tics that you mentioned on your latest momformation blog. Actually so do I.
My question is, is there an importance for being diagnosed officially? I am successful in my career (though my parents always yelled at me for throat noises).
My son does several of the tics. I am not saying he has tourettes, but that he does have several of the tics. It doesnt seem to hinder his education or his social skills. And they dont really bother me (maybe because I do the same thing)
Would it benefit him to see a doctor to see if he does have tourretts or if it is just a bad habit which mine was always blamed as...never by a doctor.

Nicole - I'm glad you are seeing Dr. Caroll. As far as getting your son diagnosed, everyone has different opinions. Some don't want their child labeled. For me, I was grateful, because then I really knew what it was.

But what is it? Tourettes is a collection of tics. It's hard to know what to treat or what even causes the tics. It's why I do a hollistic approach and then let go. What more can I do? Today, for example, Stink had hardly any eye blinks. Was it something I fed him? More sleep? Because he wore a hat to school and his head was warm helping him to focus? I mean, really, how do I know?

I will just do my best and love the hell out of him becuase honestly, he's the best thing (along with my daughter) that has ever happened to me. Tics or not, he is brilliant and loving and so very kind. I adore him.
