Like many of your children where tics suddenly presented themselves in a rushing blast of intensity, I've received an insane rush of emails this month from moms who are fearing the worst.

I remember those days of feeling so alone. It seemed everyone knew someone who had a daughter who had a friend with TS or tics, but NO ONE KNEW ANYONE PERSONALLY. Don't even get me started on the whole neurologist nightmare.

If you're one of those parents new to this journey, I have 3 things to say:

1. Don't freak out. Your child most likely is just very sensitive and is having some very common childhood tics. The right diet, exercise, and supplements can really help.

2. I am going to really try to post here once a week. (I know I've said that before, but with my kids starting school soon, this is more feasible.) I'll start with Thursdays - Tic/Tourette Thursday. It will be a nice jumpstart to get conversations started on a public forum.

3. For those who want more private time, I highly recommend you leave an email here so that other moms can contact you. Then you can form your own personal support group offline, as well as check into this website here and there for ideas, answers, etc.

As a side note, I am not going to join anyone's Facebook only because I keep that for my writing, not my kids. I hope no one is offended by that.

As always, I will leave you with this: A confident child who tics rocks over a "perfect" child who is all messed up on the inside.

Okay, that was 3 pieces of advice. Don't get all ticked off on me, now.

NAMES OF PEOPLE WHO WANT TO JOIN TWITCH AND BITCH 2 IN THE COMMENTS PLEASE!

Hi, I too would like to join a group. My son has tics and it would be great to talk to other parents whose children also have tics.It can be very frustrating and it would be great to talk with others going through the same things.

I have a 13 yr old who was diagnosed with TS at 9 he only has motor tics at this time , he is begging I let him have medication , just cannot stand the thought of giving him antipsychotic meds that rarely ever work . Could use others that unbderstand , the school is pushig for meds for his ADHD , which he isn't a bad kid just had a hard time paying attention due to always trying not to tick .

My son began to tick at age 5 when we moved to a new house. He has not been diagnosed for TS but he does tic everytime there's a life change event. An example would be school beginning, school ending, birthdays anytime there's a change in his routine. They normally last about a month and stop but I think he's ticked for the whole summer which concerns me. I would love to join the group to help talk about this. He's shrugging his shoulders now and I heard his friend ask him why he does it. I pray that he stays strong and that it does not hurt his self esteem :(

Would like to join the group. My son is 9, and we had a sudden onset of tics this summer, within days after ending a 10 day course of Ritalin LA. After much internet research, I am also wondering if maybe chlorine has had an effect. At the beginning of the summer, he was pretty much swimming like a fish, spending a couple of hours a day in grandparents' pool. I wonder how long chlorine stays in your system? I have found some other posts that indicate there is a connection. Doctors don't seem to want to listen to that point of view though.

I have a grandson 6, that lives with us part time. He has been having tics, verbal and physical. Eye blinks, nose twitch, face hitting, head bobbing, and more for 2 years with periods of remission. The Dr blew me off and he is not diagnosed. I am looking at diet and changes we can make on our own without meds. I would like to join. After I submit I will signup?

My daughter( 7 1/2) started ticcing this summer from out of the blue. She started with a mouth tic, then went to a neck pull, then a shoulder shrug , then a stomach, and now an eye tic. It was so bad at one point it was almost seizure like! We have been the whole route in the 4 weeks- pedaetrician, mri, bloodwork, neurologist. The neurologist today told us it is behaviorial. That she can control it. I don't buy it! I have watched her- I have cried with her when she has said- mommy I can not make my eyes stay in the right direction! He is wrong. She has her behavior issues and her sensory issues- which he also believes is " a made up thing". He also does not think that there is any correlation between diet or allergies as triggers. I know he is wrong! I am not saying she has Tourettes- but she definitely has a tic disorder- whether transient or chronic- this kid would not want to draw attention to herself- she is an athlete-she does not like to be in the spot light for something like her eyes not working or her body moving in awkward or what she calls weird ways. What do you do next- find another DR? I know there is more to this!!I am overwhelmed though- but not defeated. She has been tested and does NOT have ADD or ADHD yet he is talking meds for that- I will not!!!! Or anything else if I can control in other ways!!!Please put me in a support group andrea- I need advise from others----this is a new road for me!!! THanks! ( sorry for the long rant!)

I'd like to join the group also. My son (age 5) started ticcing around 10 months ago, thus no diagnosis of Tourette's YET, but I fully expect it when I take him back to the doctor after the one year mark. I'd really like to talk to others going through this.

I would like to join! My 6 yr old was just diagnosed in Sept with TS. He jumps, skips, claps, sholder shrugs, spins, eee's (vocal), grimmaces, and licks his fingers. These are just the one's I can think of, the doctor did say he was only a 4 and a scale of 1-10 and we are happy to have a diagnosis but would love to hear from others going through this!

I'd like to join also. My 10 1/2 started with a vocal tic just over a month ago. He's diagnosed ADHD, I have taken him off meds and am trying diet. I am so overwhelmed, stressed, worried.

I am so apprehensive about joining a group because I think I am in a bit of denial about my daughter having tics. If I join then that means I have to face it.
I would however really love to talk to anyone who is also going through this.
My biggest thought right now is to try the diet. Can anyone suggest a diet to follow or a book to read about the diet?
It really hurts to see your child to go through this. How do you stay strong?
Thanks

My son is eleven years old and has tourettes, the doctors dont help much. Tried only one time to medicate, stopped because of horrible side effects. I would love to learn about a diet and supplements that will help the tics.

Hello everyone, I'm a stay home dad and my 2 1/2yr old girl has tics via blinking. I notice that my daughter starts her episodes while in a calm state like sitting on the couch watching TV or in the car. Seems as though she is stress free when the tics come (wierd). But since reading posts here and BabyCenter, I really enjoyed the steps and motivation all the inspiring moms here had to say regarding food allergies and diet? I also had blinking tics myself while growing up around 16 yrs until around 26 yrs old and I have no case of tics anymore...Thank God!!! So im convinced that I passed it on to her which totally sucks. I am definitely on board with you guys and will also seek a kinsieologist and get allergy test. We eat really healthy but I have a feeling there are certain minerals she isn't getting enough (magnesium, zinc, etc..). I have an appt. tomorrow with her primary and pretty sure the doctor will not have lots of info but I need to be heard. Transient Tic Disorder is what Im thinking. If you believe in GOD, pls pray for my daughter Kiana..Thx. I hope Andrea gets to somehow respond to my situation. Good luck everyone and God Bless.
