Botox for Tics? Really? 04/20/2010
1 Comment

So the latest rage in tic control is botox. It only works on the eyes and neck. It lasts for a few months and keeps the afflicted person from feeling the urge to tic, hence no neck stretches or blinks.

But all those chemicals. And a shot in the eye? Really?

One person I know said her son, who has a high thresh hold for pain, practically slid off the table and howled in an agonizing wail she'll never forget.

I won't do that to Stink for two reasons:

1. He doesn't mind his tics.
2. If my wrinkled face can't afford botox at this time, you can bet your sweet mother he isn't getting any either.

Anyone consider this - for your kids' tics (or for yourself?) I'd love to hear some feedback - pros and cons.

Hi Stella,
I have facial tics when i was a child.I blinked alot and now i am 30 years old,i will like to try botox.I dont know if it works but im considering to try.I have been working in a same company for 8 years,i have better opportunity outside and i hope botox will help me stop blinking.I will have more confidence to look for other jobs.I live in Singapore,i never seek help.I heard supplements do help in tics, can you kindly suggest?

    TICKED OFF: TOURETTES TALK

"When You Can't Fix the Tics, Fix Yourself"

Consider this is your 12-Step Tourettes Support Group where we will encourage each other to:

    1. Accept the tics we cannot change

    2. Change the tics we can

    3. And have the wisdom to know the difference.

    ABOUT ME
My son, Stink, was diagnosed with mild Tourettes when he was 4. I was terrifed he would curse, shriek, scream and hump busses.

Quite the opposite, he is highly creative, social and thriving.

I keep his tics at a minimum through a gluten free/caesin free diet.

While I haven't eliminated his tics altogether, I'm eliminating fear through a good dose of humor and acceptance.

I hope you'll join me so we can support each other on this crazy journey. Welcome to Ticked Off.
